In a blog post, Mark Nottingham from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) announced that the HTTP 2.0 has been formally approved. The SPDY-based standard will now go through a comment period before official publication.

The biggest improvement in the new standard will be faster speed for webpages. In addition, experts say that HTTP 2.0 will spur greater use of encryption via TLS. That could improve security for end users.
