OpenAI, new non-profit focused on artificial intelligence research, has officially launched. The organization says its goal is “to advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return.”
The group has reportedly raised more than $1 billion in backing from Amazon Web Services, Elon Musk, Greg Brockman (who will also serve as chief technology officer), Sam Altman, Jessica Livingston, Peter Thiel, Infosys and YC Research. Musk and Altman are also serving as co-chairs of Open AI.
