DropBox has released a new Sync API that simplifies the process of integrating DropBox functionality into mobile apps. It allows iOS and Android developers to work with files stored on a user’s Dropbox account as if they were stored locally.

At least one developer has said that the new API reduced related coding time by half.

According to the company, the new API will help end users access their files no matter what device they are using. “Dropbox’s mission is really to let users access their data wherever they are, and that’s not necessarily geographically speaking,” said Product Manager Sean Lynch. “Whatever device, whatever platform, whether their computer at home, their smartphone or their tablet, iOS or Android, it doesn’t matter; what we want users to be able to expect is whatever device they plug into, they can access their files on Dropbox when they get there.”
