Craig Wright Claims to be Bitcoin Inventor
Australian computer scientist and entrepreneur Craig Steven Wright has written a blog post in which he claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto, a pseudonym used by the creator of the Bitcoin digital currency. Satoshi Nakamoto published a white paper that explained how Bitcoin would work and wrote the first code for the software, but no one ever met him in person. For years, the technology industry has puzzled over the true identity of this enigmatic figure, and five months ago, a couple of articles pointed to Wright as the most likely suspect.
Still, many developers doubt Wright's claim. He has offered some cryptographic "proof" for his claim, but he has declined to make that proof public. The Economist concludes, "Indeed, it may never be possible to establish beyond reasonable doubt who really created bitcoin."
For his part, Wright says, "I’m not seeking publicity, but want to set the record straight."
