Consumers Will Spend $75 Billion on Apps by 2017, Says Juniper

Analysts at Juniper Research are forecasting that consumers will spend around $75 billion on apps by 2017. Less than a quarter of that figure will come from downloads; instead, the majority of income for the mobile development industry will come from in-app purchases.

Not surprisingly, games will account for the biggest slice of the app spending pie (32 percent), and tablet spending will rise significantly. The report also points to carrier billing as a spending driver.
