BlackBerry has announced that it is discontinuing production of the BlackBerry Classic, a smartphone distinguished by its iconic physical keyboard. It was apparently a difficult decision for the company. Ralph Pini, the company’s chief operating officer and the general manager for devices, blogged, “Sometimes it can be very tough to let go. For BlackBerry, and more importantly for our customers, the hardest part in letting go is accepting that change makes way for new and better experiences.”

In related news, the U.S. Senate announced that it will stop providing BlackBerry handsets to members and staff after its existing supplies are depleted. The Senate plans to continue supporting BlackBerry phones, but members who need new phones will have to choose Android or iPhone models.
