Whamcloud Taps Open Source Lustre Project for Supercomputing

Whamcloud is a venture capital funded startup that on Wednesday has reportedly tapped open source Lustre to upset the world of supercomputing.

CNET's Dave Rosenberg has the story.

"According to CEO Brent Gorda, the company is targeting the need for high-performance storage solutions based on the popular combination of Linux and Lustre for application and data storage environments," Rosenberg reported. "The company plans to offer support and services initially, with an eye toward a turnkey supercomputing setup with hardware and software components, in the future."

Lustre, Rosenberg describes as a massively parallel, distributed, open source file system use for large scale cluster computing. It's owned by Oracle via the Sun acquisition.
