UK Officials Suggest Dumping Microsoft for Open Source
Like most governments, the UK is looking at a budget with a giant gapping hole in it. Prime Minister David Cameron asked the 600,000 government workers for suggestions on how to save money.
One answer is to stop using Microsoft operating systems and productivity suites, and to switch to open source Linux and OpenOffice instead.
"In terms of spending less, what about migrating the whole of government (the NHS, education etc.) from Microsoft products" to open source alternatives, read one of the suggestions displayed on the Treasury Web site.
BusinessWeek reported that 2 of the 31 listed proposals suggested dropping Microsoft.
