IBM Creating its own Hadoop Distro

IBM is hoping their commercial distro of open source Hadoop, called InfoSphere BigInsights, will help Big Blue compete with Google and Yahoo in data munching.

IBM's Director of Product Strategy for Database Software Bernie Spang told The Register that IBM is looking at Hadoop to help them build a "big data" crunching product.

Hadoop is a collection of subprojects, one in particular is MapReduce. MapReduce is a software framework for distributed processing of large data sets on compute clusters.

The Register's Timothy Prickett Morgan reported, "Spang called BigInsights an enterprise-ready version of the Apache Hadoop code that IBM will package up and install for customers who want to build their own Hadoop grids."
