Miguel de Icaza was once seen by Microsoft as just another open source troublemaker. In 2005 he was prevented from hosting a session inside Microsoft’s Professional Developer Conference, but now, he’s a Microsoft MVP.

TechFlash’s Todd Bishop has the story.

De Icaza leads the open source Mono project, sponsored by Novell, to expand the .NET platform to non-Windows operating systems. Microsoft was reflexively against the idea of developing .NET applications on Linux, but all that’s changed now.

“This will be a great opportunity to build more bridges with Windows developers and show them that there is an ECMA CLI (Common Language Infrastructure) life in the other side of the OS spectrum,” de Icaza blogged about his Microsoft MVP for C# award.

De Icaza started the open source GNOME project with Federico Mena in 1997.
