Firefox for Mobile, codenamed Fennec, is nearly finished. Last Thursday, Mozilla, the open source organization behind Firefox, posted the first release candidate of the mobile device Web browser.

According to Geek.com, “Mozilla’s mobile director Stuart Parmenter announced via a blog post that Firefox for Mobile RC1 added new hooks for add-on developers, improved text rendering, and addressed many ‘N900 specific issues,’ including installing to /opt and the fixing the symbol picker. In addition, the release sports a polished appearance.”

Fennec is enabled for both touch and non-touch input control. The newest update includes a snazzy user interface that “hides away controls and tab thumbnails in columns revealed by swiping a page left or right, leaving a URL box dubbed Awesome bar as the only visible interface element,” according to Geek.com.

Other features include: anti-phishing, one-touch bookmarking, a password manager and a download manager. Fennec supports HTML5, CSS, offline storage and Javascript.
