According to Apple, users spent more than $1.1 billion in the App Store during the two weeks that ended Jan. 3, 2016. In addition, App Store sales saw a new record high on Jan. 1, when customers spent $144 million on apps and in-app purchases. In all, the mobile development industry has brought in nearly $40 billion through the App Store—and half of that total came in 2015.

“The App Store had a holiday season for the record books,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing. “We are excited that our customers downloaded and enjoyed so many incredible apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV, spending over $20 billion on the App Store last year alone.”
