Apple Intentionally Unencrypts iOS 10 Kernel

Apple has long been accused of a lack of transparency, but a recent decision regarding iOS 10 could indicate a shift in the company’s philosophy. Surprisingly, Apple has decided not to encrypt the iOS 10 kernel.

The company was quick to point out that this decision does not leave users less secure. “The kernel cache doesn’t contain any user info, and by unencrypting it we’re able to optimize the operating system’s performance without compromising security,” an Apple spokesperson said. However, the lack of encryption does mean that security researchers and mobile development firms will be able to look at the iOS kernel code for the first time ever.
