According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the mobile development industry earned $50 billion from the App Store last month. Cook posted a tweet that noted, “July was a record-breaker for the @AppStore! Highest-ever monthly billings and money paid to developers.” He followed up with a second tweet that said, “@AppStore developers have now earned over $50 billion! Congratulations on your success and such inspired creativity.”
One contributing factor in the record-breaking month was likely the smash hit game Pokémon Go. Analytics firm App Annie estimates that the iOS and Android versions of the game generate $10 million a day, and it has been downloaded more than 100 million times since the beginning of July.
