App Annie: Android Still Has More Downloads; iOS Still Has More Revenue
A new report from App Annie says that the mobile development industry was "following a familiar script" in the second quarter of 2015. As in other recent quarters, Android was the clear leader on app downloads. In fact, Android downloads were 85 percent higher than iOS downloads, an increase from the 70 percent different in the previous quarter. Much of that increase was fueled by rising Android smartphone sales in China.
Still, Apple's App Store generated the lion's share of revenue, earning developers 70 percent more than Google Play.
The report also noted increases in the popularity of video streaming apps.
