Various observers have long been debating the merits of Flash versus HTML5, and now Flash-creator Adobe also seems to be jumping on the HTML5 bandwagon. The company is launching a new tool called Adobe Edge which facilitates the creation of HTML5-based animations and Web apps.

The tool is still in the early stages of development, but developers can download a preview now. “Over the last year Adobe has delivered on several significant HTML5 milestones including contributions to jQuery, submitting code to WebKit, and enhanced HTML5 output in Creative Suite 5.5,” said Adobe VP Paul Gubbay. “Now, with Adobe Edge, we’re taking our HTML5 tooling to a whole new level and look forward to getting some really useful feedback from the community over the next few months, as we refine the product.”
