About 90 percent of programmers are enterprise software developers. That means they spend their days creating private applications that only people within their companies ever see, and they are familiar with languages like C# and Java and tools like Visual Studio and Eclipse.
Matthew Baxter-Reynolds writes that many of these enterprise developers are tempted to jump into developing apps for the iPhone and iPad, but “most professional software developers have no experience at using the toolset and language used for developing iPhone and iPad applications.” Android’s toolset is better, but so far no Android tablet really competes with the iPad. For developers with some patience, Baxter-Reynolds says that Windows 8 tablets may be the ideal platform to target.
